Mahindra & Sumitomo: Powering Japanese Growth in TN

Mahindra Industrial Park Chennai Ltd. (MIPCL) and Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation have signed a cooperation agreement with the Osaka Prefecture and the Osaka Industrial Development Bureau to promote Japanese investments in Tamil Nadu, with a focus on the Chennai region.

The collaboration is designed to position Tamil Nadu as a strategic investment destination for Japanese enterprises seeking to expand their international presence. As part of the agreement, MIPCL and Sumitomo will serve as on-ground facilitators for Osaka-based companies entering India, assisting with site visits, advisory services, and joint promotional activities such as seminars and investor outreach programs in Osaka.

In return, the Osaka authorities will identify and recommend companies interested in investing in India and support them in navigating regulatory processes.

With its strong port connectivity, established industrial ecosystem, and growing presence in automotive, electronics, and semiconductor manufacturing, Chennai has emerged as a key industrial hub. The Origins by Mahindra, an integrated industrial park developed by MIPCL, currently hosts six Japanese firms and offers comprehensive plug-and-play infrastructure.

MIPCL plans to leverage its regulatory know-how and operational expertise to assist new investors with land acquisition, statutory clearances, and business setup, streamlining the entry process for Japanese manufacturers and suppliers.
