Construction of a railway overbridge (ROB) on the Harike-JiraBathinda section of National Highway 54 in Makhu, Ferozepur district, is set to begin within a week, Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO announced during the Punjab Vidhan Sabha session in response to a query by MLA Naresh Kataria.
The project has completed land acquisition, and the construction contract has been awarded. Additionally, the Central government has approved the construction of the fourth leg of the Chatiwind Canal under the CRIF Scheme (2024-25), with administrative clearance granted. The tendering process will commence soon, with funds being released progressively.
Responding to MLA Karambir Singh’s query, ETO confirmed that the widening of a 23.65 km stretch from Sahaura Kandi to Pandori Atwal (Nangal Ghodewaha) from 10 ft. to 18 ft., along with the installation of crash barriers, was awarded in January for ₹1951.22 lakh.
Necessary approvals from the forest department are in progress, and work will commence once they are secured.
