Cambi ASA has signed a letter of intent with Indian infrastructure company NCC to supply its thermal hydrolysis process (THP) technology for the upgrade of the Malad wastewater treatment plant in Mumbai.
Developed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the Malad facility is part of a broader initiative to modernise the city’s sanitation infrastructure. This project will mark Cambi’s second THP installation in Mumbai and its second in India. Following the completion of initial design work and commercial discussions, the project is expected to progress to a final contract, with the system scheduled for delivery by 2027. Once operational, the THP system will boost biogas production, reduce truck movements, and generate low-odour biosolids that can serve as a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilisers.
Cambi views this project as a strategic step in strengthening its footprint in India’s wastewater treatment sector, supporting Mumbai’s efforts to implement more sustainable and cost-efficient sanitation solutions.
