The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has finalized plans to establish its fifth construction and demolition (C&D) waste processing plant at Tehkhand, aimed at strengthening the city’s waste management infrastructure and reducing road dust pollution.
The upcoming facility will process 1,000 tonnes of C&D waste per day (TPD), helping to bridge the existing processing shortfall. With this addition, Delhi’s total C&D waste processing capacity will rise to 6,000 TPD, with provisions for future expansion up to 2,000 TPD. The project is expected to be completed within a year.
In parallel, the MCD has issued letters of intent for the establishment of 14 new material recovery facilities (MRFs) across the city. These MRFs will facilitate waste segregation and processing at the source, further reducing the burden on landfills.
Delhi currently generates approximately 6,000 tonnes of C&D waste daily. The four existing MCD plants at Bakkarwala, Jahangirpuri, Rani Khera, and Shastri Park collectively process around 5,000 TPD, while the new Tehkhand facility will help manage the remaining load, according to officials.
