Bengaluru's traffic landscape is set for a massive upgrade as Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar prepares to lay the foundation stone for the first phase of the ambitious Bengaluru Tunnel Road project.
This initial phase features a 2.228-km, six-lane tunnel connecting Hebbal Junction to the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) staff quarters. Budgeted at ₹1,139 crore and running roughly 60 feet below the surface, this project serves as a crucial cog in a larger ₹17,000-crore mega-corridor planned between Hebbal and Silk Board. Designed as a long-term fix to slash travel times—particularly for commuters heading toward Kempegowda International Airport—Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh noted that the project will drastically ease bottlenecks between Mekhri Circle and Hebbal Junction. Soil testing is already underway by the appointed private construction agency, with strict directives to meet deadlines without delay.
