Metro Line 8: Alignment Finalized, Twin Airport Link Ahead

Metro Line 8, designed to connect Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) with the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), has achieved a major milestone with the finalisation of its alignment.

Developed by CIDCO, the metro line will enhance Navi Mumbai’s intra-city connectivity, linking key suburbs through 11 stations. Starting from Mankhurd, the corridor will cross the Vashi Creek bridge, run along the Sion–Panvel Highway, and serve areas including Nerul, Seawoods, and Ulwe, before terminating within the NMIA campus. The project is advancing under a public-private partnership (PPP) model and forms part of the MMRDA’s 337-km Regional Metro plan.

The development follows the recent inauguration of NMIA by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with commercial operations scheduled for 25 December. “This metro line will provide much-needed connectivity to some of the region’s most significant economic hubs,” an official said.
