Microsoft Expands in Pune with ₹520 Crore Land Purchase

Microsoft has strengthened its foothold in India’s IT sector by acquiring a prime land parcel in Pune’s Hinjewadi IT Park for ₹519.72 crore. The purchase, finalized in August 2024, covers 66,414.5 square meters (approximately 16.4 acres) and was secured from Indo Global Infotech City LLP. The transaction included a stamp duty of ₹31.18 crore and a registration fee of ₹30,000.

This strategic acquisition is part of Microsoft’s broader plan to enhance its commercial real estate presence in India. It follows the company’s previous purchases of a 25-acre site in Pimpri-Chinchwad for ₹328 crore in 2022 and 48 acres in Hyderabad earlier this year for ₹267 crore.

The new land will support Microsoft’s efforts to expand its data center operations and bolster its digital infrastructure in India. The company already operates data centers in Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai and employs over 23,000 people across major cities, including Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

In addition to its real estate investments, Microsoft has launched the “ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA” initiative, aiming to upskill 2 million people in AI and digital technologies by 2025, further cementing its commitment to India’s digital growth. This acquisition is a contract rather than a tender.
