The Maharashtra government has approved a series of major infrastructure projects worth ₹22,611 crore, aimed at improving transportation networks, reducing traffic congestion, and enhancing connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Among the key projects cleared are a tunnel and elevated corridor linking Ghodbunder Road with Bhayandar, a crucial route expected to ease traffic pressure on existing road networks and provide faster travel between the western suburbs and the Thane region.
The government has also approved the expansion of the Navi Mumbai Metro, including an extension of Metro Line 2 to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. The project is expected to significantly improve regional mobility, strengthen last-mile connectivity, and provide seamless access to one of the region’s most important upcoming transport hubs.
Officials said the infrastructure investments are designed to address long-standing traffic bottlenecks, support urban growth, and improve connectivity across key economic and residential corridors within the MMR. The projects are also expected to enhance travel efficiency and contribute to the region’s long-term development objectives.
The approvals were granted by the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, underscoring the state government’s continued focus on expanding and modernising urban transport infrastructure.
