Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi on August 2 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a series of development projects collectively worth around ₹2,200 crore.
The wide-ranging initiatives cover infrastructure, education, healthcare, tourism, urban development, and cultural heritage—aimed at improving connectivity, preserving heritage, and enhancing quality of life in the city.
Key infrastructure upgrades include widening and strengthening of the Varanasi–Bhadohi and Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar roads, construction of a railway overbridge at Hardattpur, and new overbridges at Level Crossing 22C and Khalispur Yard.
Power infrastructure will be enhanced through the ₹880 crore Smart Distribution Project, which involves extensive underground cabling and modernization.
In the tourism and cultural domain, redevelopment works will be carried out at eight riverfront ghats, Kalika Dham, Durgakund, Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple, and the ancestral home of Munshi Premchand.
Additional initiatives include the development of City Facility Centres, creation of Miyawaki forests, beautification of parks, and restoration of traditional kunds.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate 47 rural drinking water schemes, upgrade 53 schools, and launch health sector improvements, including the introduction of robotic surgery at cancer hospitals. Other facilities to be opened include a synthetic hockey turf, PAC multipurpose hall, and Quick Response Team barracks.
