The Mohali–Kurali bypass, part of the Chandigarh–Ambala Greenfield Corridor, has faced another delay, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) now targeting a November-end opening for Package 2.
Although 97% of the work is complete, the timeline has been extended due to pending utility shifting and the installation of an extra high-tension (EHT) power line. NHAI officials remain optimistic about opening the stretch by December 2025, barring any weather-related disruptions. This marks the fourth extension for the ₹1,525.3 crore project.
The bypass is designed to decongest Mohali’s Airport Road and provide a direct, high-speed link between Chandigarh’s IT City and Kurali, significantly improving connectivity to Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Package 1—connecting IT City Chowk to Ambala via the 152D Jaipur and Delhi expressways—is scheduled for completion by 31 March 2026. Developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, the project replaced the more expensive 40-km Kharar–Banur–Tepla road plan, and was awarded to a Maharashtra-based firm in October 2022.
