The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has achieved significant progress, with 386 km of pier foundation and 272 km of viaduct completed out of the total 508 km as of February 27, 2025. During a visit to Ahmedabad on March 1, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work.
The construction process includes pier foundation work, which involves excavating and installing cylindrical columns, and girder casting, which forms the superstructure connecting the piers. Additionally, 130 km of noise barriers have been installed. In Maharashtra’s Palghar district, seven mountain tunnels are being constructed using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM).
The National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) reported that 305 km of girder casting is complete, along with 112 km of track bed. Overhead electrification work has begun in Gujarat, and track laying is set to start soon. The project spans 508 km, with 352 km in Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and 156 km in Maharashtra. Structural work for six out of eight stations in Gujarat is complete, while construction is progressing on three elevated stations in Maharashtra. At Mumbai station, the base slab is currently being cast.
All 13 river bridges along the route, spanning rivers in Valsad, Navsari, Kheda, and Vadodara districts, have been completed. Additionally, six steel bridges and five prestressed concrete bridges at various road and highway crossings are ready.
