The Maharashtra state government has officially handed over Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport to the GMR Group under a public-private partnership (PPP) framework. Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis set a firm timeline, urging GMR to complete the next phase of airport modernization by 2029—aligned with the state government's current tenure.
The overhaul is designed to transform Nagpur into central India's primary logistics gateway. Key project milestones include upgrading the existing terminal, scaling up cargo facilities, and constructing a strategic second runway. Echoing the growth vision, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized that expanding international connectivity will be the catalyst for regional trade, tourism, and foreign investment.
