The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has approved an investment of ₹904 crore to upgrade core infrastructure in Amaravati’s 29 villages, focusing on stormwater drainage, water supply, and other essential amenities.
At the 51st CRDA meeting chaired by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, nine key proposals were cleared, including the formation of a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to implement landmark initiatives such as a greenfield airport, an NTR memorial statue, a sports city, smart industries, riverfront development, an inner ring road, and a ropeway system.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to proceed at a "war footing" and ensure real-time progress tracking through online updates. He emphasized adopting global benchmarks for SPV-executed projects and called for an iconic bridge across the Krishna River inspired by Kuchipudi dance. Naidu also underscored the need for seamless integration of the riverfront, road, and ropeway plans, along with a strict policy to allow only non-polluting industries.
Key approvals included:
₹411 crore for a sewage treatment plant, ₹376.6 crore for a new water distribution centre, Allocation of 100 acres each to VIT and SRM universities, A "Gold Cluster" gems and jewellery park in Mangalagiri, Removal of “assigned” status from land pooling certificates to streamline development
These initiatives aim to accelerate Amaravati’s transformation into a modern, globally competitive capital city.
