The Narmada Water Resources, Water Supply & Kalpsar Department (NWRWS&KD) is currently constructing a barrage across the Narmada River near Bhadbhut village in Bharuch district of Gujarat.

Project Objectives
Irrigation: Provide irrigation water to over 1.76 lakh hectares of land in Bharuch, Narmada, and Anand districts.
Drinking water: Provide drinking water to over 40 lakh people in Bharuch and Narmada districts.
Flood control: Protect the surrounding areas from floods.
Hydropower generation: Generate 25 MW of hydropower.
Project Components
Barrage: A 2.4 km long and 23.6 m high barrage across the Narmada River.
Canal: A 30 km long canal to transfer water from the barrage to the Kalpasar dam.
Flood protection embankments: 53 km of embankments to protect the surrounding areas from floods.
Powerhouse: A 25 MW hydropower generation plant.
Current Status (as of October 2023)
Construction of the barrage foundation is nearing completion.
Work on the canal and flood protection embankments is ongoing.
Construction of the powerhouse is yet to begin.
