Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik will chair a key meeting on the proposed Nashik Neo Metro project at the Chief Secretary’s office in Mantralaya, Mumbai.
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has been notified about the meeting, which will be attended by officials from NMC, Maha Metro, and other relevant departments.
Originally set for February 24, the meeting was rescheduled to March 3. The Nashik Neo Metro project, announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the 2021-22 budget with an allocation of ₹2,092 crore, is still awaiting Union Cabinet approval.
In February 2023, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha Metro) presented a detailed project report at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), but no further progress was made. Despite expectations of an update during the recent Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly elections, no announcements were made.
Officials hope the upcoming meeting will help revive momentum for the long-delayed metro project.
