New Ambernath Substation to Power Palava Data Center Park by 2028

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has directed that the proposed 400/220 kV GIS substation at Ambernath be implemented on a priority basis to support the growing power requirements of Maharashtra’s expanding digital infrastructure sector.

The transmission project is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening electricity supply for the rapidly developing data centre market across the Mumbai–Navi Mumbai–Thane region. MERC noted that the Ambernath substation will be dedicated exclusively to serving consumers within the Green Integrated Data Centre Park at Palava, in line with the state government’s efforts to promote large-scale digital infrastructure investments and establish Maharashtra as a leading data centre hub. To facilitate faster project execution, the commission has approved the implementation through a Demand Development Fund framework. Under this model, Lodha Developers will finance and construct the project while working under the supervision and technical oversight of the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL).

Upon completion, the substation will be transferred to MSETCL free of cost for operation and maintenance. The project is expected to ensure adequate transmission infrastructure is in place to meet the substantial power demand anticipated from the data centre park by 2028, supporting future capacity expansion and reliable power supply for digital operations.
