NTPC Ltd and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL) have signed Supplementary Joint Venture Agreement-III (SJVA-III) for Meja Urja Nigam Private Limited (MUNPL), paving the way for a significant expansion of power generation capacity in Uttar Pradesh.
The agreement was signed on 4 June 2026 in Lucknow and incorporates provisions for enhancing the capacity of the proposed Meja Stage-II thermal power project under the existing joint venture framework. As part of the revised plan, the project’s capacity has been increased from the earlier configuration of 2×660 MW to 3×800 MW, substantially strengthening its generation potential.
Meja Urja Nigam is a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC and UPRVUNL and serves as a key contributor to the development of power infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh. The agreement was signed in the presence of the Managing Director of UPRVUNL, with participation from the Chief Executive Officer of MUNPL and senior officials from NTPC, UPRVUNL, and MUNPL.
The proposed capacity enhancement is expected to help meet the state’s rising electricity demand, improve power availability, and support long-term energy security. The expansion also underscores the continued collaboration between central and state-sector power utilities in developing large-scale generation projects and strengthening the region’s energy infrastructure.
Once implemented, the upgraded Meja Stage-II project is expected to play an important role in supporting industrial growth, urban development, and reliable electricity supply across Uttar Pradesh.
