NTPC is balancing immediate power demands with long-term transition goals through two major moves: approving a ₹20,456.70 crore investment for the 1,600 MW Lara Super Thermal Power Project Stage-III in Chhattisgarh, and modernizing its sub-critical fleet. By retrofitting 150 MW to 250 MW units to run at a 25% minimum technical load and support two-shift operations, NTPC is turning traditional thermal assets into flexible grid stabilizers that can seamlessly back up intermittent renewable energy.
