Odisha: Forging a New Future in Semiconductor Manufacturing

Odisha is set to enter the semiconductor manufacturing space within the next few years, as announced by Electronics and IT Minister Mukesh Mahaling at the ‘From Temple to Tech’ summit. The event, organized by the state government in collaboration with the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC), highlights Odisha's ambitions to become a key player in the tech sector.

Minister Mahaling emphasized the state's readiness, citing robust digital infrastructure, a skilled talent pool, and a thriving startup ecosystem. “We are seeing increasing interest from leading IT companies—many have already established operations here, and more are on the way,” he noted. To further support the sector, a dedicated industry support cell has been established to assist IT investors.

Echoing this vision, Principal Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev highlighted Odisha’s forward-thinking policies and attractive incentives designed to boost investment in information technology and semiconductor industries.

A major highlight of the summit was the signing of six MoUs between ESC and top academic institutions, including IIT Bhubaneswar, IIIT Bhubaneswar, OUTR, BPUT, VSSUT, and the World Trade Center. These agreements aim to strengthen industry-academia collaboration and align skill development initiatives with evolving sector needs.

Additionally, ten high-potential electronics and IT startups from Odisha presented their innovations to a panel of investors and mentors, underscoring the state’s rapid emergence as a dynamic tech and innovation hub.
