Ohmium, a US-based green hydrogen company specializing in Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers, has inaugurated a new gigafactory in Doddaballapura, near Bengaluru. Spanning 14,000 square meters, this facility is set to ship 2 GW of fully assembled and tested electrolyser systems. It integrates manufacturing, assembly, quality assurance, testing, warehousing, and shipping under one roof, marking Ohmium’s second manufacturing unit in India.
In a significant move this April, Ohmium partnered with Tata Projects to advance green hydrogen initiatives in India. Under this collaboration, Ohmium will supply PEM electrolysers while Tata Projects will handle engineering, design, integration, and optimization phases of the EPC process. This alliance is expected to accelerate the adoption of green hydrogen technology across the country.
Ohmium’s India-based subsidiary gained prominence in 2023 when it was selected as the PEM electrolyser partner by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited. This partnership, valid until May 2025, aims to deploy up to 400 MW of projects utilizing Ohmium’s patented electrolysers in various industrial and commercial applications, including ammonia production, transportation, and power generation.
The collaboration with NTPC is a critical part of NTPC’s goal to deploy 5 GW of renewable energy dedicated to green hydrogen and green ammonia production. Ohmium’s technology will play a pivotal role in achieving these targets, showcasing its potential in the renewable energy sector.
Ohmium’s expansion and strategic partnerships underscore its commitment to advancing green hydrogen technology and supporting India's renewable energy ambitions.
