ONGC Launches Deepwater Drilling Off Odisha Coast

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has initiated drilling operations at the MN-DW18-1-H-D deepwater exploratory well in the Mahanadi offshore basin off the coast of Odisha. The operation was virtually launched by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, as part of the nationwide 'Samudra Manthan' initiative aimed at unlocking India's deep and ultra-deepwater energy reserves.

Positioned 23 nautical miles from ONGC’s prior Konark discovery, the campaign seeks to further evaluate the basin's hydrocarbon reserves, capitalizing on recent momentum from the Utkal and Konark finds as well as multi-TCF natural gas potential identified in the MN-DWN-98/3 block. Operations are backed by ONGC's Mumbai-based Deepwater Exploration Mission Centre (DeepX), which centralizes data and technical expertise under its "One Company, One Data" initiative.
