Flowing Success: ONGC Strikes Gas in Mahanadi Deepwaters

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has achieved a significant milestone in its deepwater exploration portfolio with a new natural gas discovery in the Mahanadi Offshore Basin, located off the coast of Odisha.

Discovered on September 18 at the MN-DW18-1-H-D well—drilled under the Samudra Manthan initiative to a depth of 1,623 metres—the reservoir has demonstrated consistent gas flow and healthy pressure over a three-day testing period. Given its favorable distance from the coastline, the find holds strong promise for expedited appraisal and commercial monetization.
