Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has been declared the successful bidder under Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) for establishing an Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) to evacuate power from pumped storage projects in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh.
Awarded on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis, the project’s Letter of Intent (LoI) was issued on 04 September 2025. The scope includes the construction of a new 765/400 kV pooling sub-station, bay extension works at upcoming substations, and associated 765 kV transmission lines across Uttar Pradesh.
This strategic project will significantly enhance the regional and national grid infrastructure, enabling reliable evacuation of renewable and pumped storage power. Leveraging its expertise in large-scale transmission, PGCIL will play a key role in improving power accessibility and grid stability, furthering India’s clean energy and energy storage objectives.
