PM Modi Unveils Rs 75,000 Crore Solar Power Scheme

On February 13, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled an ambitious initiative aimed at harnessing solar power to provide accessible electricity to households across the nation, christened 'PM Surya: Muft Bijli Yojana'.

This groundbreaking endeavor, backed by an investment exceeding Rs 75,000 crore, is poised to illuminate one crore households by offering up to 300 units of complimentary electricity per month. Beyond the immediate provision of energy, the scheme stands as a beacon for sustainable development, fostering enhanced well-being among citizens.

During the Interim Budget presentation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman earmarked Rs 10,000 crore as initial funding for the initiative, ensuring a solid foundation for its implementation. Underpinning its success, urban local bodies and panchayats will be incentivized to promote the adoption of rooftop solar systems within their jurisdictions. The scheme's ripple effects are anticipated to encompass augmented income streams, reduced power expenditures, and expanded employment opportunities, thus reinforcing its significance at both the individual and societal levels.
