PMC Secures ₹27 Cr to Upgrade 9 STPs, Boost Water Quality

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received a grant of ₹27 crore from the Central government to upgrade and modernize sewage treatment plants (STPs) at nine locations: Mundhwa, Kharadi, Vitthalwadi, Naidu Hospital, Erandwane, Baner, Bhairoba, Bopodi, and Tanajiwadi. This funding was allocated under the Jal Hi Amrit scheme.

According to Additional Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj BP, the grant was secured thanks to the commendable efforts of PMC’s electrical and drainage departments. Of the total amount, ₹18.90 crore has already been disbursed and will be utilized for technological enhancements and system improvements at the listed STPs.

In parallel, PMC is also constructing ten new STPs as part of its river rejuvenation program. These new facilities are being funded through support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The initiative aims to improve the treatment of sewage before its release into local rivers, thereby promoting environmental sustainability and enhancing urban water quality.
