PMRDA Explores Twin Tunnel Solution for Pune Traffic Congestion

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has launched a feasibility study for a proposed 20-kilometre double-decker twin tunnel connecting Yerawada and Katraj.

Aimed at easing traffic congestion in the city centre, the tunnel will serve as an alternative route for commuters traveling between key regional corridors such as Nagar Road, Alandi Road, and Nashik Road, toward Bangalore and southern Maharashtra. The design includes multiple escape routes and strategically placed entry and exit points to accommodate various travel needs.

The study, set to be completed within three months, will cover a detailed feasibility report, geotechnical assessments, and an analysis of the project’s economic and financial viability.
