PNGRB greenlights bidding for 325 km Jammu-Srinagar gas pipeline in Kashmir

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) approved the commencement of the bidding process on December 27, 2023, for the establishment of a 325 km natural gas pipeline connecting Jammu to Srinagar.

This proposed natural gas pipeline represents a significant stride in bolstering the clean energy infrastructure within these regions. The project aims to introduce gas utilization, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the Kashmir Valley.

In synergy with the ongoing development of the natural gas pipeline from Gurudaspur to Jammu, this initiative is a pivotal step towards providing environmentally friendly fuel across the mountainous expanse of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Srinagar in an economically viable manner.

Beyond its infrastructural impact, the pipeline is poised to supply the Kashmir Valley with clean and eco-friendly natural gas. This endeavor aligns with the national commitment to curbing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development. The anticipated availability of natural gas is anticipated to catalyze economic activities in the region, offering a cleaner and more efficient energy source for industries, businesses, and households.

Currently, the bidding round for the license to distribute natural gas in the Srinagar Valley is in progress, with bids expected to be received by mid-January 2024.
