Power Grid Corporation of India has approved infrastructure projects worth ₹705.51 crore, aimed at strengthening national grid operations and enhancing disaster resilience.
The approval was granted by the Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects during its meeting on September 26, 2025. The two key initiatives focus on modernizing communication systems and bolstering emergency response capabilities within India’s power transmission network.
The first project, with an outlay of ₹209.68 crore, involves the implementation of a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communication system across all five regional grids—Northern, North Eastern, Southern, Western, and Eastern. Scheduled for commissioning by August 23, 2026, this system is expected to significantly improve coordination and operational efficiency in grid management.
The second project, budgeted at ₹495.83 crore, will support the procurement of 20 Emergency Restoration System (ERS) sets, comprising approximately 300 towers, under the Make in India initiative. This infrastructure is designed to enable rapid restoration of power transmission lines in the event of natural disasters or technical failures, and is targeted for completion by April 19, 2027.
These strategic investments underscore Powergrid’s commitment to modernizing India’s power infrastructure and reinforcing the country’s energy security and resilience.
