Powering Up: NTPC Expands Nuclear Feasibility Drive Across India

NTPC has announced plans to conduct feasibility studies for nuclear power projects in additional states, including Uttar Pradesh, as part of its long-term clean energy expansion strategy. Having already completed site evaluations in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha, NTPC continues to evaluate potential locations across the country.

The initiatives support NTPC’s target to build 30 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047—contributing directly to the Indian government's overarching goal of achieving 100 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047. In the nearer term, NTPC aims to achieve at least 20 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2032.

Each proposed project is structured around an average capacity of 1,400 MW, featuring two 700 MW units. Detailed proposals will be submitted to the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) for review by the Standing Site Selection Committee and subsequent approval by the Atomic Energy Commission. To deploy large pressurized water reactor technology, NTPC is actively exploring collaborations with global industry leaders including Westinghouse (US), Rosatom (Russia), and EDF (France).
