Following six years of planning, Prayagraj Junction has kicked off construction on two new platforms, marking a critical milestone in North Central Railway's (NCR) station redevelopment and capacity expansion initiative.
Work is currently underway to level land between existing platforms 7-8 and 9-10, utilizing the alignment of former tracks 14 and 15. This expansion will bring the station's total platform count to 12, significantly improving its ability to manage increasing passenger footfall and train movements. Crucially, the added space removes a major bottleneck, unblocking the construction of the station's proposed concourse.
In tandem with platform expansion, Prayagraj Junction has commissioned new pit lines and washing lines designed to accommodate 24-coach trains. These upgrades empower the station to perform local maintenance, safety inspections, and deep cleaning independently, dramatically reducing turnaround times for long-distance trains.
