Project Pragyan: Assam & Tata Launch ₹600 Cr. Skill Mission

The Assam Cabinet has approved a ₹600 crore project to establish a state-wide network of skill education centres in collaboration with the Tata Group’s satellite services arm, Nelco, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on August 21, 2025.

Aimed at building a robust skill development ecosystem, the initiative will be jointly funded, with the Tata Group contributing 75% of the total project cost. The Sarba Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) will serve as the nodal agency for implementation, overseeing the establishment of 50 skill hubs and 500 spoke centres across the state.

In the first phase, 10 hubs and 70 spokes will be developed. Each hub will feature advanced training centres offering courses in 10 high-demand trades, while the spokes will operate within schools to deliver vocational education under the SSA framework. All centres will be interconnected via satellite-based communication provided by Nelco, ensuring seamless delivery of training and content across Assam.
