Rajarhat-Gopalpur Gets ₹333 Crore Water Revamp

The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a ₹333 crore water distribution project to provide filtered, surface-treated water to households in wards 1 to 21 of the Rajarhat-Gopalpur area.

Funded under the Central Government’s AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) scheme, the initiative aims to benefit approximately 3.2 lakh residents who currently rely on iron-rich underground water sources. The project includes the construction of 14 overhead water tanks, four underground reservoirs, and a comprehensive pipeline network connected to the New Town water treatment plant.

With soil testing completed, work is now underway to lay the primary distribution pipelines. BMC officials anticipate completing the project within two years.

At present, BMC receives 17 million gallons per day (MGD) of filtered water, primarily allocated to Salt Lake, while the Rajarhat-Gopalpur region continues to struggle with poor water quality and limited supply.
