The governments of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the Central government have officially inked a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the long-pending Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal-ERCP Link Project at the Ministry of Jal Shakti in New Delhi.
After nearly two decades of anticipation, the project is set to kick off, bringing significant advantages to 13 districts in the Chambal and Malwa regions of Madhya Pradesh. Water-scarce districts like Morena, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Bhind, and Sheopur are poised to witness a notable increase in water availability. Additionally, industrial hub districts such as Indore, Ujjain, Dhar, Agar-Malwa, Shajapur, Dewas, and Rajgarh are expected to experience accelerated industrialization.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav expressed confidence that the project would be operational within five years, with the current estimated cost standing at approximately Rs 75,000 crore. The initiative aims to irrigate an extensive area of about 5.60 lakh hectares and elevate water levels through the construction of dams and ponds.
A pivotal development occurred with the integration of the project into the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), elevating its status to that of national importance. This integration was facilitated through an agreement between the states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, marking a significant milestone in the project's journey.
