RHI Magnesita has introduced India’s first robotic system for caster operations at JSW Vijayanagar Metallics (JVML), a subsidiary of JSW Steel—marking a major milestone in steel industry automation.
Developed under RHI Magnesita’s 4PRO framework (Performance, Partnership, People, and Planet), the advanced system handles 350-tonne ladles and automates critical continuous casting operations such as ladle shroud changes, powder feeding, temperature measurement, and tundish sampling.
Integrated with SX3 slide gate technology, EMLI LadleSlag sensors, and robotic cells on the Continuous Casting Machine (CCM), the system significantly enhances safety, operational efficiency, and product quality.
By removing human exposure to molten metal, intense heat, and hazardous fumes, the robotic solution sets a new benchmark in industrial safety. It also improves production cycles by reducing material wastage, rework, and scrap, contributing to substantial cost efficiencies. Real-time data from embedded sensors and vision systems enables early defect detection and ensures consistent output quality.
Senior leaders from both companies hailed the initiative as a transformative step toward technological innovation and operational excellence in India’s steel sector.
