RMLIMS Goes Big: 1,000-Bed Speciality Block Approved

The Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, is set to construct a new 1,000-bed broad speciality block near the Signature Building on Shaheed Path to expand healthcare capacity and strengthen critical care services.

The institute’s existing campus in Vibhuti Khand, which currently offers both broad and multi-speciality treatments, will relocate its broad speciality beds to the upcoming facility. This move will free up space for 100–150 additional critical care beds within the current premises. According to RMLIMS Director Prof. C. M. Singh, the Board of Governors has approved the proposal for a seven-storey structure dedicated entirely to critically ill patients, with construction expected to begin next year.

At present, RMLIMS operates 1,150 beds (excluding the obstetrics and gynaecology wing), handles around 4,000 OPD patients daily, and manages approximately 550 emergency cases. The planned expansion is aimed at reducing patient load, enhancing critical care capacity, and improving overall healthcare delivery for both general and specialised treatments.
