₹208.76 Cr Cleared: Akola Airport Expansion Takes Flight!

In a major step toward Akola’s infrastructural development, the Maharashtra government has approved ₹208.76 crore for the acquisition of 22.24 hectares of land required for the expansion of Akola Airport.

Expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Akola MP Anup Dhotre stated that the airport’s expansion — including the runway extension — fulfills a long-standing aspiration of Akola’s citizens. The proposal was cleared by the Maharashtra State Civil Aviation Committee, chaired by the Chief Secretary, following a series of high-level meetings.

The project is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and stimulate industrial, commercial, and tourism growth across Akola, Washim, and Buldhana districts, while also improving access for devotees visiting Shegaon. MP Dhotre has urged Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol to expedite the remaining clearances to ensure timely operationalization of the airport.

In a parallel development, the state government has also sanctioned ₹290.23 crore for the development of Kolhapur Airport, further advancing Maharashtra’s aviation infrastructure.
