₹36,000 Cr RRTS: Delhi-Panipat's Fast Track Future Begins

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has initiated preparatory activities for the ₹36,000 crore Delhi–Panipat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, starting with utility diversion along a 22-km stretch between Narela and Murthal.

Although final financial approvals from the Central, Delhi, and Haryana governments are still pending, NCRTC has floated tenders to relocate power lines, cables, and transformers — a critical preliminary step expected to take about a year before full-scale construction of stations and tracks can commence.

The 136-kilometre high-speed corridor, designed for trains operating at 180 km/h, will feature 17 stations and reduce travel time between Delhi and Panipat to under an hour. The line will eventually be extended to Karnal in later phases and forms part of the larger Namo Bharat high-speed transit network.

Sarai Kale Khan will serve as the central interchange station for all RRTS corridors, significantly boosting regional connectivity across the NCR. Officials highlight the project’s potential to decongest National Highway 44 and promote urban decentralization by improving daily commute options to satellite towns.
