Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that the proposed six-lane elevated corridor between Maduravoyal and Sriperumbudur on NH-48—estimated to cost ₹600 crore—will receive approval by January 2026.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for three major National Highway (NH) projects in Puducherry worth ₹2,050 crore, Gadkari noted that 10% work has been completed on the Chennai Port–Maduravoyal corridor. He also assured that the Chennai–Bengaluru Expressway would be completed within six months, reducing travel time between the two cities to just two hours.
Key projects inaugurated include:
The ₹1,558 crore Puducherry–Poondianguppam bypass, A ₹436 crore flyover between Rajiv Gandhi Square and Indira Gandhi Square, A ₹25 crore road upgrade at Ganapathi Chettikulam
Additional announcements included:
A 3-km elevated corridor from Natesan Nagar to Marapalam, A 13.5-km four-lane road between Ariyankuppam and Mullodai, at a cost of ₹650 crore
Gadkari also confirmed that land acquisition has commenced for the ₹2,200 crore, 46-km Puducherry–Marakkanam flyover project.
