₹738 Crore Highway Dream: Jorhat-Jhanji Project Enters Final Stretch

The long-delayed four-lane NH-37 highway project between Jorhat and Jhanji in Assam is close to completion, with 97% of the physical work finished, according to Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Jay Shivani. During a site inspection on June 10, 2025, Shivani, along with officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), reviewed the remaining work and called for expedited progress on two key segments — the Bhogdoi and Jhanji river bridges.

The 37.8 km stretch includes 36.8 km in Jorhat district and 1 km in neighbouring Sivasagar. With a total project cost of ₹738.15 crore, it also features a modern toll plaza for efficient traffic and revenue management. The construction is divided into four packages across three contractors: Sadguru Engineers (10 km and toll plaza), Binni Construction (14 km), and MP Agarwala (13.8 km).

Launched in 2016 with a foundation stone laid by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the project has faced multiple delays due to cost and timeline overruns. Now in its final phase, authorities are pushing for its swift completion.
