Saluja Steel and Power Private Limited (SSPPL) is gearing up for a significant expansion project in Jharkhand, aiming to boost both steel production and energy generation. The expansion plan entails increasing sponge iron production from 60,000 to 180,000 tons per annum (TPA) by adding two new Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) kilns, each with a capacity of 200 TPD. Additionally, SSPPL intends to establish a steel melting shop (SMS) equipped with induction furnaces to manufacture 138,700 TPA of steel billets.
In line with diversification efforts, the project includes the installation of a rolling mill capable of producing 100,000 TPA of TMT rods, a popular construction material. Furthermore, SSPPL plans to venture into ferro alloy production by setting up a unit capable of manufacturing 27,900 TPA of silico manganese.
To ensure self-sufficiency in energy, SSPPL plans to establish a 20 MW power plant utilizing waste heat recovery boilers (WHRB) and an AFBC/CFBC boiler for cleaner and more efficient power generation. This strategic move aligns with sustainability goals and reduces reliance on external power sources.
The ambitious expansion project is expected to have a significant impact on the region by creating employment opportunities and contributing to India's steel production targets. However, it's imperative to conduct thorough assessments of the project's environmental impact and implement responsible waste management practices. Transparent communication and active community engagement will be essential for building trust and ensuring the project's long-term success.
