SCB Medical College: ₹4,474 Crore Makeover Underway in Odisha

The SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, is undergoing a major transformation into an AIIMS+ facility with an estimated investment of ₹4,474 crore. Despite construction commencing in January 2022, progress has been slower than anticipated. As of now, only 32% of the clinical facilities and 28% of the residential facilities have been completed, according to Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling.

Originally scheduled for completion by July 9, 2024, the clinical package now has a revised deadline of December 2025. This phase, valued at ₹2,636.2 crore, will include extensive infrastructure such as a general medicine block with 600 beds (48 ICU), a specialized medicine block with 496 beds (67 ICU), and facilities for specialized and general surgeries with a total of 962 beds (151 ICU).

The residential package, which includes housing for students and the DAV SCB Medical School building, has a new completion date of July 2025. This segment, worth ₹888.5 crore, will significantly enhance the facility's capacity and accommodation. Currently, SCB Medical College offers 2,132 beds and 250 MBBS seats.
