South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India, has entered into a ₹7,040-crore agreement with TMC Mineral Resources Pvt Ltd to implement advanced coal mining using paste fill technology.
This modern underground technique involves filling mined-out voids with a paste made from fly ash, crushed overburden, cement, water, and binding agents. It eliminates the need for surface land acquisition, prevents land subsidence, and improves mine stability.
With this move, SECL becomes the first coal PSU in India to adopt paste fill technology, marking a significant step toward safer and more sustainable mining operations.
