SiCSem, a subsidiary of Archean Chemical Industries, will lay the foundation stone for its second semiconductor manufacturing unit in Odisha on November 1.
The upcoming compound semiconductor facility, located at Info Valley, will cover 23 acres and involve an investment of ₹2,067 crore. The plant is designed to process 60,000 SiC wafers annually and produce approximately 96 million MOSFETs and diodes, catering to high-growth sectors such as electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy, and smart grids. The project is expected to create around 1,000 direct jobs and numerous indirect employment opportunities.
SiCSem’s R&D centre, SICRIC, located at IIT Bhubaneswar, will further strengthen indigenous research in silicon carbide (SiC) technology. Together with RIR Power Electronics Ltd’s facility, the initiative positions Odisha as an emerging hub for semiconductor manufacturing under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).
