SJVN Powers Up Uttarakhand with Naitwar Mori Hydro Project

SJVN has officially commenced operations for its 60 MW Naitwar Mori hydroelectric project in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The successful commissioning of both units of the 60 MW (2x30MW) Naitwar Mori Hydro Power Station (NMHPS) on the River Tons, a significant tributary of the River Yamuna in the state, marks a significant milestone.

Following rigorous testing and seamless synchronization with the national grid, both units are now operational, contributing to the commercial generation of electricity. The Naitwar Mori hydroelectric project is poised to generate a substantial 265.5 million units of electricity annually. This accomplishment elevates SJVN's total installed generation capacity to an impressive 2,152 MW.

The powerhouse, an underground structure, features a diversion structure measuring 18.5 meters in height and 50 meters in length at the top. The power generated will be efficiently evacuated through a 37-km-long 220 kV transmission line from Bainol to Snail.

The water for the project has been redirected into a 4.33-km-long head race tunnel (HRT) with a diameter of 5.6 meters. The project has been meticulously designed for a discharge rate of 75.3 cubic meters per second, coupled with a head of 90.76 meters. This strategically executed hydroelectric initiative not only harnesses the power potential of the River Tons but also contributes significantly to the region's energy landscape.
