The Smart City Mission (SCM) has completed 7,741 projects—representing 96% of all planned initiatives—at a total value of ₹1,55,386 crore.
According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, 323 projects worth ₹9,425 crore are still under implementation as of December 1, 2025. The mission originally outlined 8,064 projects across 100 cities with an overall budget of ₹1,64,811 crore. Of the ₹48,000 crore allocated by the Central government, cities have drawn ₹47,458 crore (99%), while states and Union Territories have utilised ₹46,093 crore (97% of the Central share).
SCM initiatives focus on retrofitting, redevelopment, and the creation of citizen-centric infrastructure, with an emphasis on integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions to enhance governance, mobility, and environmental sustainability. As the mission approaches its financial closure in March 2025, no additional budgetary allocation is planned.
