Union Shipping Secretary Vijay Kumar visited the Chennai Port Authority on January 27 to review port operations and inaugurate infrastructure projects worth ₹54.27 crore.
During the visit, he inaugurated four key initiatives. These included the Andaman and Nicobar Passenger Terminal, built at a cost of ₹29.8 crore to strengthen coastal and island connectivity, and an indigenous vessel traffic monitoring system (VTMS) valued at ₹22.58 crore to enhance vessel tracking and maritime safety. He also commissioned navigational aids and channel buoys at a cost of ₹0.39 crore and laid the foundation stone for the renovation of Port Gate 2, estimated at ₹1.5 crore.
The projects are aimed at improving passenger handling, streamlining vessel movements, enhancing navigational safety, and upgrading port infrastructure. They are expected to significantly boost the overall operational efficiency of the Chennai Port.
