SMS Group Bets Big on India’s 300 Million Tonne Steel Goal

SMS Group has inaugurated a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Sanand, Ahmedabad, spanning 80,000 sq. metres.

The new facility will manufacture equipment for processing flat and long steel products, as well as forging technology solutions. Commenting on the development, Fabíola Fernandez, Chief Financial Officer at SMS Group, said the investment marks an important step in expanding the company’s presence in India and supporting the country’s ongoing industrial growth. The site is designed to manufacture components weighing up to 125 tonnes and to assemble complete production lines.

The facility has been developed with future expansion in mind, including plans for additional machinery investments and the recruitment of skilled personnel. Marco Asquini, CEO of SMS Group for the APAC and MEA regions, said the plant will support India’s expanding steel production capacity, which is targeting 300 million tonnes per year.

SMS Group’s investment aligns with the Make in India initiative and underscores its commitment to delivering high-quality equipment and services to Indian customers.
