Speeding Up: India’s First High-Speed Rail Hits Major Milestone

India’s flagship 508-km Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor is shifting gears from heavy civil construction into an advanced systems and execution phase. Implemented by NHSRCL with Japanese cooperation, the ₹1.08-lakh-crore project is targeting its first phased commercial operations on the Surat-Vapi stretch by mid-2027. With indigenous rolling stock development underway by BEML and intensive tunneling, track installation, and electrical works scaling up, the initiative is unlocking a massive multi-sectoral opportunity pipeline spanning railway equipment, signaling, testing, and long-term maintenance.
