Rajarambapu Patil Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Limited (RPSSKL) is embarking on a ₹105.5 crore expansion of its distillery plant in Sakharale, Sangli, Maharashtra. Driven by increasing molasses availability and rising alcohol demand, the project aims to boost production capacity from 75 KLPD (kilo liters per day) to 100 KLPD, focusing on fuel ethanol.
The expansion involves replacing older distillation units with a new 55 KLPD multi-pressure vacuum distillation plant and a 50 KLPD MSDH plant dedicated to fuel ethanol production. This upgrade brings the total capacity to 100 KLPD. Recognizing the importance of responsible waste management, RPSSKL plans to upgrade their effluent treatment system with a multi-effect evaporation plant followed by an incineration system, achieving "Zero Spent Wash Discharge."
The project introduces flexibility in raw material usage, allowing the use of B-heavy molasses and even sugarcane juice alongside the existing C-heavy molasses. The existing bio-methanation, MEE, and composting system will be replaced with a more efficient process involving multi-stage evaporation and incineration. This significantly reduces the spent wash volume and converts it into usable fuel, minimizing environmental impact.
This expansion signifies RPSSKL's commitment to leveraging market opportunities while prioritizing sustainable practices. The project is expected to create new jobs and contribute to the region's economic development.
