Andhra Pradesh is set to take a major step in its clean energy transition with the foundation stone for a large green ammonia plant scheduled to be laid on March 18 at Mulapeta in Srikakulam district by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The proposed facility, spread across 282 acres, will have a production capacity of five lakh tonnes per annum and is expected to position the state as a global hub for green energy. The project follows a memorandum of understanding between SRM University–AP and JK Srivastava Henfra PSA, an Indo-Polish joint venture, to establish a Centre of Excellence for Hydrogen Technologies as part of Andhra Pradesh’s vision of creating a “green hydrogen valley.”
Officials from SRM University said the institution will focus on developing indigenous, low-cost electrolysers, advanced hydrogen storage systems, and refuelling infrastructure, including solutions for hydrogen-powered aviation. The MoU also aims to build an industry-ready workforce in hydrogen technologies, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing, thereby reducing dependence on foreign expertise.
The green ammonia plant is expected to support exports to European markets by August 2028 and aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s integrated clean energy policy, which targets investments of Rs 7.5 lakh crore, the creation of 10 lakh jobs, and incentives such as a 25 percent capital subsidy by 2029–30.
